vs Amp is the fifth solo album by London based saxophonist Colin Webster. As the title suggests, the core of this album is heavily amplified baritone saxophone.
Mesmerising feedback tones and distortion infuse with Webster’s circular breathing workouts to create undulating textural drones. Elsewhere on the album, repetitive rhythmic structures are forged from the clanking mechanics of the instrument.
All ten pieces on vs Amp were improvised in one take, without overdubs, loops, or edits.
Colin Webster has collaborated with some of the key figures in improvised and experimental music, and is known for working from extreme sonic palettes – from minimal to maximal, constantly pushing boundaries.
